Writing the Book

After successfully self publishing Shut Up and Draw (available on Amazon), I feel as though I've crossed a particular line not unlike the one Roger Bannister traversed when he broke the four minute mile barrier in track and field. Nor, in my mind, do I realize the significance of the door trough which I've walked. It was as much a mental breakthrough as it was a physical one.

I can call myself an author of a published book and now that I've gained experience as such, I'm eyeballing my next book only an even better one.

It's astounding to me that after all these years of believing the rhetoric of the masses and those I errantly looked up to as wise, that I've found a viable outlet for my creative endeavors diametrically opposed to the voices of my past. Yes, I am, without a doubt the very personification of a late bloomer, as described in the book Late Bloomers by Rich Karlgaard, but it doesn't matter. Nor does it matter if I can be a commercial success at these life long, deep seated yearnings of mine.

The years I have on many contemporaries in the field of writing and illustrating is to my advantage and may even allow me to address a market heretofore passed over.

Commercial success is subordinate to my purpose. Fortunately, I have an edge with a source of income unrelated to my creative endeavors that allows me to focus on my art and writing as I see fit without deferring to a client for the sake of money.

And now the mystery begins.
